Camouflage Make Up - High End Part 3 of 4 ✿
This week I looked into high end camouflage make up. I looked at the quality, last, colour choice, thickness and coverage. I also looked at some reviews for the products I researched. I still stand by my statement that camouflage make up really is a mind field.
CLINIQUE
The first brand I looked into was Clinique. I was interested in looking into Clinique because I know a few people who use their products and they rate them extremely high, I personally have very little experience with Clinique.
I had a foundation once, I really cannot remember what it was, however it was very thick and heavy on the skin, but it gave amazing coverage and after wearing it for a while, the thickness died down and felt rather lightweight. I'm not sure if that's just me and how I felt with the foundation.
The first product that came up online was Continuous Coverage, this only comes in four shades, so doesn't have a wide range of selection.
The tube you get is 30ml, a reasonable amount. As you can see there is only 4 shades avaliable, however with the jump in numbers I'm swaying towards the fact that other shades are either out of stock or discontinued.
"Provides full coverage all over the face or in target areas. Non-chemical SPF 15 sun protection. Safe for use around eyes, as concealer and sun block. Recommended by physicians to cover scars, skin discolourations, birthmarks. Ophthalmologist tested. Water resistant."
The above is the statement on the details tab, it sells the product pretty well and if it was myself needing the make up, I would definitely be persuaded to buy it even at £22.50 a tube.
Looking further onto the website all that comes up is concealers. Concealers hide flaws and imperfections but they are not classed as a camouflage make up range, in my eyes anyway.
MAC
I then went on to look at MAC, to see if they had a specific camouflage range. The first thing that came up was the studio fix concealer. Again, this is only a concealer. However, with MACs range of foundations and concealers, all having an amazing coverage, I would probably want to try it out and see how it covered a strawberry birthmark. The only problem that I'm aware of with MAC is that it can be quite oily until powdered and then keep powdering throughout the day.
MAC have a huge range of colours making it easier to find your perfect match.
Unfortunately MAC do not have a camouflage range of products. Which makes me sad.
Estee Lauder
The final high end brand I looked into was Estee Lauder. They have a product called Double Wear Maximum Cover and this IS a specific camouflage foundation for face and body. It comes in eight different colours from light to dark.
The packaging is super nice. It looks very professional and again, it's in a tube like the Clineque one. Again it comes in 30ml tube.
PRODUCT DETAILSThe above is all the information on the details tab. It gives you a great amount of detail and really does sell the product, even more than Clinique.

The foundation has a 4/5 star review rating. One review is stated below;
"Fab foundation - the best. However, the current shades are dreadful. Not everyone has an orange tan that they need to complement with matching make-up. Some of us, - indeed lots of us - actually like/can't help, being pale. I cannot understand how therefore a) Estee Lauder don't accommodate all skin tones, and b) why they have never responded to other like-minded reviewers who have also called for the re-instatement of the lighter shades? How hard can it be to do at least one of these?"
A lot of the other reviews do slate the colour choices and how orange pigmented they are even being at an extortionate £29.50 per tube, it still seems like and excellent foundation!
CONCLUSION
I am rather on the fence with these products, however, with more colour choices, a nicer packaging and reviews which state the excellence of the coverage, I am leaning more towards Estee Lauder. However, the website does not state weather the finish of the foundation is matte and waterproof. Therefore the Clineque definitely wins me over on this occasion.
Love it! I know it is a difficult field of the make up range, you should definitely look into learning a lot more about camouflage make up. Can't wait for next week!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog by the way!
You have done a wonderful job with this particularly sensitive subject for many women suffering with facial disfigurements eg: scarring, birthmarks etc. It is not only a mind field but confusing area when trying hard to identify good quality camouflage makeup. I have a large 'port wine' birthmark covering the right side of my face and eye. It has taken me many, many years to find what makeup suits me best without looking like a painted doll. I use and swear by: 'Double Wear Maximum Cover' and Double Wear Makeup by Estee' Lauder. It is comfortable, long lasting, waterproof and above all creates a natural matching finish. For many women their fear of makeup is: "is it coming off (showing their imperfection)" or "do I look like a clown with thick creasing makeup." Worn correctly Double Wear Camouflage and Double Wear Foundation Liquid is amazing, natural and gives a woman confidence without the worries and anxieties I have described. So thank you for this blog Beth. Also there are many women out there who if they had the chance to learn how to use this makeup correctly would welcom some future discussions on the subject..
